Even organic cotton could be uncomfortable if the finishing threads were the slightest bit fuzzy or the fabric’s knit wasn’t just right. That experience taught me that what I want from an ordinary fashion staple like a T-shirt isn’t just a graphic, but quality that lets me enjoy soothing, luxurious comfort every day, even with irritated skin or a tired body.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn the past, we’ve worked with a wide range of materials, including extra-long-staple cotton, Supima cotton, and US cotton. We’ve also used various techniques, such as Z-twisted, high-twist open-end yarn to increase strength.\u003cbr\u003eT-shirts made on old Japanese loopwheel knitting machines, which use gravity to bring out the fabric’s full texture, were also of excellent quality. But they offered a different approach to achieving a luxurious feel.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSo instead of the single-knit jersey construction used until now, where weft yarn is passed through the warp, we focused on proven smooth jersey, which has the same knit pattern on both sides. We began updating it to create stretch and a clean fabric surface.\u003cbr\u003eSmooth knit stitches overlap halfway, creating a dense surface. This makes the fabric thicker than jersey, but because the same stitch isn’t knitted horizontally, the finished surface has little texture and feels even softer against the skin.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAfter testing various yarn blends to make the most of these qualities, we created a smooth knit fabric with a fine texture and no fuzz. We used soft, long-staple, 40-count extra-long-staple cotton yarn, made from long fibers only, twisted into two-ply yarn. The result is a comfortable T-shirt that brings a sense of everyday luxury.\u003cbr\u003eIn summer, it feels light and comfortable.
