GARDEN TOKYO presents
MSML DIRECTORS STYLING
Authentic styling by two artists
T$UYO$HI (PTP, The BONEZ, Dragon Ash) and KATSUMA (coldrain) have earned their place in the world of loud rock and risen to become representatives of Japan. As performers whose livelihoods depend on captivating an audience, it goes without saying that they have a keen interest in clothing, both onstage and in their personal lives. The apparel brand “MSML” was born when their creativity, shaped by a deep appreciation for music and fashion, came together and was transformed into products. This time, we visited a meeting about the brand’s upcoming collection and photographed their authentic outfits as its directors. The brand is called MSML.
T$UYO$HI : STYLING1
Effortlessly cool. T$UYO$HI has a presence unlike musicians of the past. On this day, too, he chose the boldly patterned ART GRAPHIC SHORT SLEEVE SHIRT with white LINEN WIDE PANTS, delivering a look that felt natural yet memorable, just like him. His fashion philosophy also informs the direction of MSML. For example, the carefully considered fit accommodates playing an instrument, while the clothes are designed for ease of wear on tour. Even when designing a single shirt, his experience naturally brings a sense of groove to the product.

T$UYO$HI says the ART GRAPHIC OVERSIZED T SHIRT was one of this season's most memorable items. He places great importance on individuality in clothing design, and opted for a bold design with a print on the lower half of the body.

KATSUMA : STYLING1
Standing calmly amid the tumultuous waves of deafening sound, he shines a light called rhythm. KATSUMA is the lighthouse of coldrain, and his style, illuminated by his chrome-finish drum kit, is more aggressive and rock than anyone else's. On this day, he went with a monochrome palette, choosing the BIG SLEEVELESS CUTSEW, whose sleeveless design creates a fashion-forward mood, and the simple yet striking WIDE CARGO SHORTS FAKE LEATHER. As expected, his everyday style hints at the edgy playing style that calls coldrain's music to mind, making it easy to see why there's a certain "edge" to the world of MSML.

Setting aside his perspective as a designer, he says he genuinely likes the WIDE CARGO SHORTS FAKE LEATHER, which also features in his styling. He describes them as a versatile piece that works with any top, with the faux leather adding definition to an outfit even in summer, when there's not much you can layer.

T$UYO$HI : STYLING2
This look has a different feel from the one introduced at the beginning. The wide-silhouette top, which evokes street culture, is the OVERSIZED DAMAGE LOGO T SHIRT. Its special vintage finish blends in well with the body, and doesn't clash with the standout all-over print of the ART GRAPHIC HAT, making for a well-balanced combination. The thoughtful color coordination between his sneakers and clothes is a testament to his good taste.

KATSUMA : STYLING2
Here, he opted for a velour matching set. The all-black look enhances its hardcore feel. Its simple yet striking presence comes not only from the silhouette, but also from details like the carefully crafted logo and paneling. The watch and jewelry are coordinated in color, while the white shoelaces keep the overall look from feeling too heavy. These little touches make for a style that never gets old.

This season's collection is titled Desertflower.
Just as the word points to something that does not exist, their creativity will continue to accelerate through music and keep producing one-of-a-kind products. At least, that was the impression I got watching them at the meeting.
