I'm now an adult who can't give up gasoline-scented things and board sports, but as a child I had very sensitive skin. Even the slightest fuzz on yarn or the fabric's knit could irritate it. Having struggled with this firsthand, I wanted a T-shirt made from fabric that offers soothing, luxurious comfort every day, even for irritated skin and a tired body.
After making T-shirts from extra-long-staple cotton, Supima cotton, and US cotton, as well as strong Z-twist yarn made from open-end spun cotton for added durability, and shirts knitted on vintage loopwheel machines that use gravity to create the fullest possible texture, we arrived at smooth-knit fabric, which has the same knit on both sides.
Because the stitches overlap tightly in alternating rows, the fabric is thicker than jersey. But since the same stitch isn't knit horizontally, the finished surface has fewer bumps and feels even smoother against the skin.
Special softening and washing treatments remove fuzz, adding a smooth, distinctive cashmere-like feel and a silk-like drape for an ideal, luxurious wearing experience without discomfort. Pre-washing also helps prevent shrinkage.
